Overview

This charts the unsteady relationship between two outsiders unsure of themselves: a girl bruised by her parents’ unhappy marriage and a sailor tired of years at sea. While the film’s atmospheric location footage shows the influence of Rossellini, its quiet lyricism and tender compassion for the vulnerable loners are sometimes reminiscent of the early films of Nicholas Ray.
