Inferno
Dario Argento’s baroque, operatic horror follows a student who discovers a powerful witch living in a New York City apartment block.
Director: Dario Argento
Overview
Dario Argento followed his Italian horror masterpiece Suspiria with this equally baroque and operatic chiller about a student who uncovers the centuries-old Lady of Darkness, Mater Tenebrarum, alive and well in New York City.
With its startling imagery, strong primary colours, lavish gore and Keith Emerson’s ludicrously overblown score, Inferno is a wild and wonderful exercise in complete stylistic abandon, of a kind almost completely absent from the 21st-century horror landscape.
