Overview

The highlight of this February 1957 edition of the early ITV television variety show is legendary comedy troupe The Crazy Gang performing an extract from A Midsummer Night's Dream in their customarily over-the-top style. Among the warm-up acts are singer Rosalina Neri and bizarre kilt-clad French whistling duo Les Joyeux Rossignols.

The Crazy Gang's routine here was a part of These Foolish Kings, the show they were then performing at the Victoria Palace, London, for impresario Jack Hylton. Supporting act Les Joyeux Rossignols, two Frenchmen who always performed in tartan garb, were held in high regard by the Birmingham Mail, who declared their kilts "amusingly different".
