Overview

British director Joe Wright, of Atonement and Pride & Prejudice fame, took a distinctive turn with this hyper-kinetic action thriller about a female assassin. Hanna (Saoirse Ronan) lives in the Finnish wilderness with her father an ex-CIA agent Erik (Eric Bana). On the run from the agency, Erik nurtures a deadly secret and so has raised his daughter as an assassin as protective insurance against expected attacks. And as he suspects, his obsessive former senior, Marissa (Cate Blanchett), is soon on their trail.

With its superb use of unusual locations and a barrelling Chemical Brothers soundtrack, Hanna is a brilliant, breakneck thrill-ride that restated Wright’s reputation as one of British cinema’s most versatile directors.
