Bowfinger 12 rating

Hysterically funny Hollywood satire, with Steve Martin as a director who'll stop at nothing to make a movie with his top star (Eddie Murphy).

Comedy 1999 97 mins

Director: Frank Oz

Besides playing a no-hoper actor-turned-director Bobby Bowfinger, Steve Martin wrote this very funny (and, one fears, all too authentic) comedy about the behind-the-scenes lunacy of Hollywood. Bowfinger's forlorn plan: to construct an alien-invasion movie around action superstar Kit Ramsey (Murphy) without the actor actually noticing the hidden cameras or the rest of the cast. Funny, satirically sharp, it also boasts a lovely performance from Terence Stamp as the guru of a Scientology-style cult.
