Overview

Meet Patrick Bateman. Traditionally handsome, whip-smart, and financially successful, he has Wall Street on a leash as a popular banking executive. He also happens to be a serial killer. Director Mary Harron explores egomaniacal masculinity and its shocking impulses in this sometimes hilarious, but altogether terrifying piece of American Independent film.

Based on the incendiary book by cult writer Bret Easton Ellis, American Psycho became a controversial hit both on page and on screen. Harron , co-writer Guinevere Turner (Go Fish) and star Christian Bale create a heightened but deeply cold version of New York in the 1980’s, encapsulating its capitalist obsession and darkest human desires. The film’s ensemble cast, ranging from Reese Witherspoon and Josh Lucas to Chloe Sevigny and Jared Leto, flesh out Bateman’s inner circle. Harron brings Ellis’s piece to life in this twisted dive into a horrifying psyche.
