Overview

Lovely home movie footage of family outings captured in 1927 by the Simonds family from Suffolk, including rare coverage of the Wimbledon Singles Finals, and a trip to the iconic coastal landform and natural wonder, the Giant's Causeway in Northern Ireland. The footage is definitely "of its time", showing period dress that includes more modest sportswear - the standard dress for women means blouse and long skirt, or for men, shirt and long trousers.

In 1927 the Wimbledon Tennis Championship ran from 20 June until 2 July. It was the 47th staging of the tournament. American Helen Wills won the women's singles championship defeating Spain's Lili de Alvarez, and Henri Cochet defeated Jean Borotra (both representing France) to be crowned men's singles champion.
