Penny Plain - Twopence Coloured: The Romance of the Model Theatre

The famous Pollock's toy shop.

1928 3 mins Silent

Overview

Visit the famous Pollock's Shop in Hoxton, purveyor of 'Penny Plain or Tuppence Coloured' Toy Theatres.

When this film was made in 1928, Benjamin Pollock was still running his toy theatre shop in Hoxton and doing printing, colouring and demonstrations of performances himself with his daughter Louise. We see him working on producing the 'tuppence coloured' version of The Miller and his Men, a thrilling tale climaxing with a great explosion, as well as performing a version of Robinson Crusoe.
