Overview

The British National Ploughing Championships are organised by the Society of Ploughmen with competitions during the British ploughing season taking place at the end of summer into autumn. There are classes teaching conventional and reversible and horse drawn ploughing as well as vintage and hydraulic ploughing.

The society of ploughmen hold local matches throughout the country mostly during September and October. Farming is one of the oldest industries in the world. Animals would have been fastened to handmade ploughs by their horns or tails. The Agrarian Revolution and inventions during the Industrial Revolution led to mechanised methods of ploughing and today it is practised as a hobby.
