Overview

A gasometer reflected in a puddle, young men talking on the street, and the sun setting behind the chimneys of old terraces - this film shows us a quiet evening after the busy daytime redevelopment of Salford slum housing.

In the 1960s, the City of Salford undertook a huge programme of slum clearance, demolishing many streets of condemned terraces, and replacing them with new homes and tower blocks. Michael Goodger, from Salford University, shot many hours of film footage documenting the transformation of the area.
