Coaches and Huntsman

An illustration of horsemanship straight out of a Victorian novel

Non-Fiction 1900 Silent

Overview

This rural scene is a glimpse of a long-past world - an evocative vision of Victoriana. On the long drive of a country estate, two coaches take a turn in front of the camera - each is driven by standing coachman, who demonstrate their mastery of a single horse or a pair, respectively. A huntsman passes by on horseback, dressed in his dapper hunting pink. Old-fashioned horsemanship of this kind would soon be eclipsed by the age of the automobile.
