A Letter for Wales

Cinema star Donald Houston recalls his memories of railways and the romance of the Welsh landscape.

Drama 1960 22 mins

Overview

Watching the Night Mail train leave Paddington Station, Welshman Donald Houston recalls the engine he wanted to drive as a boy: the one that climbs Snowdon! He describes other memories: of bridges, boats and dolphins, of first love, and of slate quarries. Then, with the launching of the lifeboat at Tenby, the spray dissolves to steam, his visions fade, the echoing London terminus comes into view and our Welshman is back at Paddington.
